Dear Families,
As the students in 3rd-5th grade are busy this week and next completing
the CSAP testing in math, reading, writing and science, I spent an
afternoon with students from the University of Colorado School of Engineering.
My time with these engineering students reminded me that
much of what we are trying to do in school is difficult to measure with a
paper and pencil test.
These CU students
are working in groups of five creating engineering
projects that will be on display in the Ryan lobby later this spring.
The students at Ryan Math and Science Focus School are their clients.
They are creating these learning displays using the ITL lab machines.
Some of the projects are entitled, Gravitational Shocker, Simple Pin
Ball Maze, The Air Maze and Magnet City.
What was most
rewarding as I listened to the student proposal was
the sense of collaboration, teamwork and synergy that was needed to
work together on this engineering project. The same type of issues our
Ryan students are working on are the issues that these honor students at
CU are also working on.
