Classroom Constitution

At the beginning of the year, the class brainstorms rules they feel we need to have a successful, safe, well-managed school year. We then vote those ideas down to 7 main rules, in order to match the contents of our own historical United States Constitution. After memorizing the preamble to the Constitution, children raise their right hand and promise to follow the 7 articles of our Classroom Constitution. This is all done at the annual learning celebration called the Constitutional Convention. Every student then signs the class constitution with a quill pen, as a pledge of commitment to follow for the remainder of the year.
