I was born and raised in Boulder, Colorado. I completed all of my early schooling through the Boulder Valley School District and therefore, I am very devoted to the district. I am a proud graduate of Bear Creek Elementary School, Southern Hills Middle School and Fairview High School.
After high school, I moved away for college. I completed two years at The University of California, Santa Barbara and then transferred to the University of Montana, in Missoula. (I am a huge Griz fan!) During my years in Missoula, I was a member of the Alpha Nu Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta, a big sister through the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Missoula, an advocate and event coordinator for a non-profit organization named WEEL (Working for Equality & Economic Liberation), which provided support and resources for families in poverty, and finally conducted my student teaching in a 1st/2nd multigrade classroom under a Reading Recovery Specialist. In addition, I spent time studying internationally through The University of Pittsburgh Semester at Sea, Voyage of Discovery Program. In the course of this program, I was lucky enough to study in and travel to countries around the Ring of Fire, including Russia, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Canada. I graduated from the University of Montana in 2004 with a degree in Elementary Education and an emphasis in Computer Science.
After graduation I received a Colorado Teacher License in addition to a Montana Educator’s License. I then moved back to Boulder to pursue my teaching career.
In 2004-05 I taught Kindergarten through Fourth Grade Language Arts and Literacy at a private school in Longmont. It was a wonderful opportunity to teach in a unique and intimate setting. I am happy to say I will now be teaching in the Boulder Valley School district, which has always been my desire.
Outside of school and work, I love to be outdoors. I enjoy skiing, rafting, hiking and of course playing soccer. I have played soccer my entire life and have had the fortune of coaching girls’ soccer teams. I have an extensive background in computer software applications and programming languages, and make this my occupation when I am not teaching. I also love to travel any chance that I get.
