Ms. Megan Schumacher
I was born on an island in the Niagara River, named Grand Island, NY. It is located between Buffalo, Niagara Falls, and Canada, about 1 mile up-river from Niagara Falls. It was a wonderful place to spend my childhood, swimming in the river and visiting the many state parks. My two brothers and two sisters and I were always camping and hiking with my parents. I am the second oldest of five children. My older sister Sara, and my younger brother and sister, Matt and Gretchen, still live back East near my parents. My other younger brother, Adam, lives in South Carolina, where he is stationed with the US Air Force. We are a very close family and I take every opportunity to go back home for a visit.
I started off my college education as an Illustration major, but soon realized that my real calling was to teach. I transferred to Buffalo State College and later graduated Summa Cum Laude with a dual degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. While I was finishing up my education degree, I took a trip across country with my boyfriend, Eric. We drove from Buffalo, NY to Los Angeles, CA, and along the way stopped in Boulder, CO. I think we both knew that it would not be the last time we were there. A month after arriving in LA, Eric moved to Boulder, and I followed a year later, after finishing my degree in Buffalo. My Colorado family now consists of Eric, and our two cats, Monkey and Bubba
. 
Since I moved here, I realized that Colorado is the place for me. I love the outdoors. Hiking, camping, and canoeing, are some of my favorite activities. And, of course, I have also learned to ski! I started teaching first grade as soon as I arrived in Colorado, at Westminster Elementary School in the Adams50 School District. It was a wonderful place to teach; however, I could not turn down the opportunity to teach in Superior, just five minutes from my home. I am so excited to be part of the family here at Superior Elementary School. I am really looking forward to getting to know everyone and having a great year!
