  • locating answers within a text
  • vocabulary enrichment and text analysis

INDIVIDUALIZED INSTRUCTION: "READING CONFERENCES"

  • intensive one-on one instruction
  • personal skill/strategy work
  • assessments of Reading Indicators, Standards, fluency, decoding, comprehension, etc. to guide future instruction and set reading goals
  • LITERACY CENTERS

    • strategy practice and reinforcement
    • opportunity to improve comprehension, fluency, and expression
    • Word Play - manipulation of sounds, meanings, conventions,words, parts of speech
    • Book Nook - whole text studies of format and authors, content activities and learning
    • Poetry Place - studies of rhyme, rhythm, text analysis, imagery, poet, forms

    INDEPENDENT READING

    • "Drop Everything And Read" time (D.E.A.R), independently and with partners
    • integration of content books from across the curriculum
    • independent rehearsal of strategies
