Form: "What kind of writing will I use?"
|
|
Once teachers and students have identified a purpose and audience for
writing, they begin the process of selecting the most appropriate framework
or "form" that best matches their needs. Second graders will have the
opportunity to explore and practice writing narratives (stories), letters,
recounts, procedures, reports, explanations, and expositions (persuasion)
and poetry. Teachers consistently model each new form of writing before
children attempt it on their own. With practice and guided instruction,
students are able to recognize and use key language features of each writing
form. Our Writer's Workshop Notebooks are FULL of these forms and samples of
each. Come in and take a look!
