Role Play Writing
|
Children are beginning to come to terms with written symbols.
They experiment with marks on paper as a means to communicate
their ideas or message. At this stage, children use known letters
or approximations of letters to represent their written language.
They are developing an awareness of print directionality.
Parent Tips
- Find time to share reading and writing activities with your children.
- Take your child to the library and encourage them to select their own books.
- Share simple storybooks with your child. Relate the characters and events to your child’s experiences.
- Read books with rhyme and repetition. Sometimes point to words as you are reading.
- Talk about the events of the day with your child.

- Show your child how you use writing in messages, lists, letters, and cards.
- Provide a special place for your child to write.
- Find opportunities to display your child’s name.
- Talk about alphabet books.
- Write messages to your child and read them together.
