I was born in Munich, Germany in 1950 and came to America six weeks later. I grew up in Brooklyn, New York and attended Brooklyn Technical High 
School. I was the art editor of our High School literary art magazine, which I also wrote for, and was one of the captains of the football team. Go figure. (My high school quarterback lives in Rock Creek!). After graduating from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio on a football scholarship with a Bachelor of General Studies degree, I went out to California to be an artist and writer.
I met my wife Niko in San Francisco, and then we traveled around the U.S. She is a Jin Shin Jyutsu 
practitioner, which is a healing art. Our first daughter,Tana, was born in Austin, Texas and is a literary agent’s assistant in New York City. Our second daughter, Carla, was born in Boulder where we have lived for 25 years, and is a teacher in Massachusetts. Both of the girls were born at home with midwives. Now that was an experience I can’t wait to tell my grandkids about!
I have always been interested in art, music, literature and sports, AND children! I was (and still am) a professional artist and enjoy painting murals all aver the country and even in Spain! I love to sketch wherever I go. I practice all types of art media and that’s the best thing about teaching. I get to paint, draw, do printmaking, work in clay, make things with paper, scissors and glue with my students. What a great way to earn a living! As kindergarten student Harrison says “serious fun!”
