I love every day of being the principal of Superior Elementary School! We have such wonderful students, teachers and parents and coming to work each day is a joy. Prior to moving to Boulder in 2005, I lived for twenty-five years in Oregon. My daughter, Heidi, grew up in Salem where I taught grades 3-8. I became a middle school assistant principal and principal of a school in the Portland Metro area. During my last ten years in Oregon, I was an elementary principal in the Beaverton School District. I moved to Colorado to be closer to my family. I have an “Irish twin” that lives in Boulder and is a nurse practitioner at C.U. I always call her for advice with any aches and pains!

I grew up in Ottawa, Illinois, which is about 100 miles from Chicago. Two rivers meet there and my five siblings and I spent many hours hiking the surrounding hills and riding our bikes in the countryside. We always knew when dinner was on the table and would return with “adventure stories” for our parents. We spent summers picking beans and detasseling corn for 50 cents an hour (55 if it rained). We’d work side by side in the fields and then when our paycheck came in August, my mother would drive us to the train and we’d go into Chicago to spend our money on school clothes. We learned to manage money, stay together for safety and meet the train on time!

I went to Illinois State University where I graduated with a degree in elementary education. My Masters Degree in administration and superintendent license are from Portland State University. I attended the Harvard Principals’ School for several summers. I married Walter Hausermann who grew up in Aarau, Switzerland, and we have one child, Heidi. She is now getting her Phd in Geography through the University of Arizona. Her research is in the cloud forest of Mexico. I visited her there and we had a wonderful time!
