I grew up in New Jersey canoeing and hiking and bird watching. I moved to
Colorado in 1973 because I loved to ski. I finished my Master's Degree at CSU in
1974. I taught in a variety of settings from recreation programs, elementary, middle, high school and colleges. I love teaching in the outdoors and love to integrate nature awareness into my classes whenever I can. I also love being
in a position to help children learn more about who they are and how they can be they best they can be. I feel like my mission in life is to help others, especially children, to feel empowered and happy. I love teaching physical education and I love our school and community.
In 1995,
I was selected as the first physical education teacher to be hired at Superior. I had the opportunity to create a physical education program from scratch.. Luckily I was only working part time, so I was able to devote 9 months with many hours researching, writing grants, observing master programs throughout the state to create a solid program for Superior's first year. I remember walking the grounds with the architect while the school was being built to try to figure where the gym was located so we could have the builders reinforce certain walls for a horizontal adventure course. It was also exciting to be able to pull together my 20 years of teaching experience and create my dream program and curriculum for Superior. The first year at Superior we had most of the programs we have today: intramurals, a health fair, SAPP (Students Against Peer Pressure) a fifth grade outdoor trip to Joder Ranch (now the 4th graders go to Lake Estes), hoop shoot, the adventure course, jump rope for heart, the Skip-It’s assembly, fitness club (94 students compared to 399 in 2006), field days and splash day. My goal for the first year was to make it feel like a seasoned program for the 5th graders, which I felt was accomplished.
I have lived in Rock Creek since 1993. I have been married to a wonderful man, John Mullen since 1973 and we have a beautiful daughter, Karina who is in college. I have 2 cats, lots of flowerbeds, bunches of bird feeders. a water garden full of fish, frogs and plants which keep me busy. In my spare time I love studying about holistic approaches to life in mind, body and spirit.
I welcome visitors at any time...feel free to stop by to say hello if you are
new to our school.
