Fitness Club

The Superior Elementary Fitness Club is designed to promote habits of life-long physical activity in our students. Studies show that if you repeat an activity 21 days in a row, it becomes a habit.  The changes you saw starting last year reflect updated National recommendations for children’s fitness.

The Details:

Tuesdays & Fridays, April 21- May 26

We invite your child to participate in our fitness-training program, and we welcome you as well! The objectives of the Superior Fitness Club are:

  1. To improve participants’ fitness levels.
  2. To help students develop a life long habit of moving a minimum of 60mins. /day.
  3. To work on personal goal setting through a variety of activities each day.
  4. To help students train for races, if they choose to enter.
  5. To develop an enjoyment of training as an individual, and with friends.
  6. To give parents, younger siblings, and community members an opportunity to help with the program and to train alongside students.

REGISTRATION: Due  Monday, April 6 at 2:30 with a $15.00 donation for the first student, plus $10.00 for each additional student.  Adults and younger siblings are welcome at no charge. All students must register in advance. We cannot accept walk-ins.

Other P.E. News

Thank you First and Second Grade Families for supporting our Bowling Party!  From all accounts it was a great success. The best story I heard for doing this again was that this event gave students the chance to interact with other students that they didn’t know very well-- and that they even cheered each other on as they bowled!  We could have a third/fourth grade party too.  Third and fourth grade parents—let me know what you think. Let’s do it!

As for other nice ideas for getting together, a suggestion was made to meet for ice skating next winter at the rink in Louisville. I like cocoa. I’ll get the sign up sheet ready . . ..

SAPP

Students Against Peer Pressure will meet on the 2nd and 4th Wed. mornings of the month. In December we meet all 3 Wednesdays to prepare for the holiday drives. It meets at 7:30 AM in the gym and is open to any 3rd, 4th and 5th grade student. It is free and we focus on natural highs like playing a fun cooperative game for the first 5 minutes. The activities center around making good choices, leadership, dealing with peer pressure, red ribbon week and community service. It's a great time to have kids begin to think for themselves on many levels and to role play solutions to  situations they might find themselves squirming in around peer pressure. I love it and hope that we get lots of new children...I think it 's a fabulous way to examine and practice values and asset building..
Questions can be directed to the SAPP coach: Kathy Carty-Mullen
