Ceramic Pinchpots

Students learned about ceramics and and glazing! We created pinchpots with our red rock clay and after they
were fired in the kiln, students glazed them with our special cone 05 glazes!

Flower Print Still-life’s

Students looked at colorful still-life’s created by Janet Fish. We then water colored our backgrounds bright colors, painted our vases with tempera paint, and made flower prints with sponges. Students finished them by adding
stems and vase patterns with oil pastels!

Mary Cassatt Family Portraits

Students learned about famous artist Mary Cassatt and her beautiful family portraits. Students were then asked to create their own family portraits. First, we sketched out our families, paying close attention to draw them realistically. Then students colored them with oil pastel and watercolored the background. We finished them by adding a pattern border in colored pencils and markers.

African Painted Houses

We began this lesson by reading Maya Angelou's book "My Painted House, My Friendly Chicken, and Me" based on the Ndebele Tribe in Africa. We then discussed symmetry and color mixing which led us to create our own African painted houses just like in the book!

Fall Tree & Leaves Painting

Students started this lesson by painting a tree with brown paint and grass. Then we discussed the fall colors
and how to mix them to make leaves for our trees! When they dried, we outlined our trees and leaves
with markers and added veins to the inside. We finished them by mounting them on fall colored paper!

Secondary Bugs

Students learned about the primary colors and then experimented with tempera paint, creating secondary colors. Once they were dry, students created bugs from their paintings and cut them out. We then glued them to green paper and finished our bug creations with pencils and markers!

Shapes & Owls

Students studied the many different shapes and then we talked about combining shapes to create drawings. We realized that you can draw just about anything if you just connect the shapes in different ways! We then used our shapes to create owls. After sketching them out, students outlined with markers, colored them with crayons, and
watercolored the background!
