Van
Gogh Sunflowers
Students
studied the artist Vincent Van Gogh and his sunflower paintings. We then
sketched out our own sunflowers and painted them with acrylic paint. Students
learned about color mixing, painting thickly, and using layers for more
vibrant paintings!
Aboriginal
X-Ray Art
Students studied Australian Aboriginal art. We learned about the intricate
X-ray art and the fact that Aboriginals made animals this way so that
they could see their inner spirit. We drew and colored our animals with
metallic colored pencils and filled them with patterns. We finished them
with markers and more patterns!
Kandinsky
Concentric Circles
Students studied the paintings of abstract artist Wassily Kandinsky and
his use of color and music. We discussed
color theory using the color wheel. Students integrated math into their
art as they divided their surfaces into 8 sections. We then used music
to help feel out and guide our color choices.
Interior/Exterior
Mixed Media
Students explored the exciting idea of creating art with a view of inside
and outside. We also learned about "atmospheric perspective"
and used this method to create our backgrounds. Then we used collage to
create a city and the inside of our houses. We finished them by paintingcurtains
on the windows and adding our favorite pet!

Diego
Rivera Foreshortening Self-Portraits
Students studied mexican muralist Diego Rivera and his use of foreshortening
to make his murals look real. We then traced our hands and feet and drew
self-portraits smaller in the background to achieve this effect. Students
outlined their drawings with markers and then colored them with crayons.
