Louise Nevelson Wood Sculptures
Students studied the artist Louise Nevelson and her amazing wood sculptures. We discussed the principle of
design „unity‰ and how each sculpture has unity when all pieces are put together and painted one color. Students then created their own wood sculptures and painted them black. We then put them all together to make one sculpture in the hallway!

Monet's Japanese Bridge: Students learned about Impressionism and Monet's style of painting. We then sketched our Japanese Bridge landscapes and water colored them using cool colors. Students learned how to use the technique "pointillism" to paint their landscapes. To finish them, we mounted them on black paper.

Kandinsky Color Wheels: Students studied the paintings of abstract artist Wassily Kandinsky and his use of color and music. We discussed color theory using the color wheel. Students integrated math into their art as they divided their surfaces into 8 sections. We then used music to help feel out and guide our colored sections.

Van Gogh Sunflowers: Students studied the artist Vincent Van Gogh and his sunflower paintings. We then sketched out our own sunflowers and painted them with acrylic paint. Students learned about color mixing, painting thickly, and using layers for more vibrant paintings!

Take a look at the second grade class as they work on their Van Gogh sunflower paintings!

Students studied Diego Rivera and his use of perspective in his murals. Students then created self-portraits with the perspective of falling.
