3rd Grade Projects Page

In the wax museum project third grade students were asked to research a historical figure as part of a unit of inquiry. Students wrote and memorized a short report on the importance of their chosen character and dressed for the part. On museum day, historical figures came to life relating their place in history.

Here are some photos from the third grade wax museum.

Here is Charlie's speech as a member of the Donner party: "Hi, I'm George Donner. I was part of the most hideous crossing of the Sierras in western history. It all started in the winter of 1845. I lived in Springfield, Illinois at the time. My brother Jacob Donner and I and out friend James Reed had discussed selling all we owned. Then we would be free to move to California. Most people thought we were crazy. It was a long and difficult journey for 800 people. Snow prevented us from crossing the Sierras. In the end we had to eat each other in order to survive. Right past Donner Lake, one of our axels broke on the wagon. I cut down a tree and tried to chisel out a new one. The chisel stabbed my hand. It got infected and a couple days later I died."

Here is Laura D.'s speech about Laura Ingels Wilder: "My name is Laura Ingalls Wilder, and I was born in a log cabin in Wisconsin in the year 1867. I lived many places because my father liked to see different lands and he didn’t like too many neighbors. After Wisconsin, we moved to Kansas, Minnesota, Iowa, and finally South Dakota. When I grew up I became a teacher, but I wanted to write more, so I became an author. I wrote about my childhood and where I lived. I married a man named Manley and had a daughter named Rose, who now writes for the newspaper. I died at the age of 91 a few days after my birthday."

Here is Laura S.'s speech about Elizabeth Cady Stanton. "Hello. My name is Elizabeth Cady Stanton and I am one of the first women who decided that women should have the right to vote. I was born in 1815 which was a long, long time ago. One day my father even said to me, “I wish you were a boy.” That made me very disappointed. So what I did to show my father that I was just as brave as a boy is I rode horses. To show him that I was just as smart as a boy, I studied Greek. I went to college and worked very hard.On February 14, 1854, I addressed the New York State Legislature and told them that women should have equal rights. Most especially, I said that women should have the right to vote!!Even though I didn’t live to see women get the right to vote in 1920, I supported women’s rights in a great way and helped them achieve equality!! I was a pioneer in the fight for women to get the right to vote!!
