Romare

Students studied the artist Romare Bearden and his detailed collages.
We based our project on Romie's most famous collage "The Block."
Students then created their own "Blocks" using assorted paper
and magazines.
Picasso

Students studied the artist Pablo Picasso and his use of color and cubism.
Students then sketched themselves using mirrors and combined two images
(profile & front view) of themselves in one portrait. Students then
used line to create interesting shapes (cubism) within their faces. Students
colored each shape with oil pastels and then finshed them by watercoloring
the background.
Adire

Students studied the African art of tribes Adire Eleko and Senufo. First
they created "mudcloth" with symbols used in the Adire Eleko
Tribe for the background. The students used Senufo tribes way of creating
stylized animals for the foregroung of their picture. We finished, by
mounting their art on black paper.
Mondrian
Contrast Designs
Students studied the paintings of Abstract Artist Mondrian and his use
of lines, patterns, colors, and shapes. Then students created a grid using
markers and filled the sections with colorful patterns. We then created
contrast by tracing our hands and creating a box of black and white versions
