4th Grade Projects Page

These rockets were part of a fourth grade IB unit of inquiry called "Our Place in Space." The central idea to this unit is "Conditions on earth are affected by our location in space."

The pumpkin project pictured below was a math activity where students estimated then calculated various numeric pumpkin properties, such as weight, circumference and number of seeds. The project culminated with each group carving the pumpkins into Jack-o-laterns. The students also averaged the predictions for the weight of the pumpkins to show how stastically accurate averaging a large group of people becomes, even when some people are quite off the mark.
