Whittier is part of the Family Resrouce
School (FRS) program. What does this mean?
- Special resources and services are available
to all of the families at an FRS school.
- Families are offered training and support
to help raise healthy, well-functioning children.
- Children can participate in a variety
of after school classes which keep them safe and busy learning.
- Non academic barriers are reduced so
family difficulties do not interfere with academic success.
- Access to services is improved via a
Family Outreach Coordinator who answers questions, makes referrals to
community services, and provides “whatever t takes” to meet
families needs. (See the names of Whittier's family research coordinators
listed below.
- Encouragement and support is provided
so parents can be involved with their children’s education and
with their children’s school.
- Parents and teachers are involved with
planning and overseeing programs and services.
- Group and individual counseling is available
to build family strengths.
Who can Participate in the FRS Program?
FRS is designed to support all families

these families. To insure access to FRS services all FRS staff at each
school speak Spanish and translation is available in virtually any language. There
are no upper or lower income barriers to FRS services and most services
are free. Reduced fees and scholarships are available when there is a
service charge.

You can participate in this wonderful program
through…

meet on a regular basis to plan outreach and needs assessment activities
and give general input on how to implement FRS activities.
- Direct Service Volunteers – Volunteers
are needed in many ways: helping children with homework after school,
tutoring students, planning a special event and providing clerical assistance.
